Room Review: Hunt Club of Hillsdale March 27, 2010

The Hunt Club in Hillsdale 3/27/10

The Review

We came out to the Hillsdale Hunt Club for the last Saturday of the month $60 Deep Stack tournament playing for the Jackson Childcare Center M55880. After a beautiful drive down US12 – with numerous deer sightings, I arrived in downtown Hillsdale.  The charity poker room is on the second floor of the restaurant.  I had heard good things about the Hunt Club – that it is the second best charity poker room in Michigan! -  so I was pretty excited to be there.

Ron & Jeff greeted me as soon as I got up the stairs.  The entire second floor is dedicated to charity poker, with a full bar and dedicated bartender taking care of the entire poker room.

The Hunt Club plays Thursday – Sunday each week with a variety of tournaments available.

Games 4 of 5 Chips

A regular crowd fills two cash tables almost every night the Hunt Club is hosting poker.  It’s a consistent $1/$2 game with $30 min / $200 max buy in.  If enough players are interested, they will spread a $2/$5 game.  Teh Hunt Club has cash action Thursday – Sunday.

Tournaments 5 of 5

The Hunt Club runs a tournament for every player!  From Thursday’s $40 Deep Stack to the $5 Cheap Seat Sunday Rebuy.  On the last Saturday of every month, they run a $60 Deep Stack too.  We played the $60 Deep Stack for March.

Twenty seven players bought in.  The blinds & levels were tracked with Poker Clock software on a big screen TV.  The number of chips in play, and the average stack were tracked – Ron & Jeff updated the computer each time a player went out. With twenty minute blinds, there was plenty of time to play your own game.

Atmosphere 5 of 5

Music in the background, big screen TV’s everywhere, Keno, Pull Tabs, great food.  The Hunt Club works hard to make everyone feel welcome. There’s a full bar in the poker room, with a full menu available.  An ATM is located downstairs in case you need a chip reload.  Tables are non-smoking, but you can smoke at the bar.

Equipment 4 of 5

Four maroon felted racetrack poker tables upstairs with lights hanging over each. Lots of side tables to keep the beverages and food off the tables, and cushy chairs for your buns.  Nice tournament chips, and custom cash table chips.

Staff 5 of 5 Chips

The Hunt Club dealers – Dennis, Greg, Bob, Josh, Christie & Jed on duty Saturday – are great at keeping the game moving and friendly.  All the dealers are in white dress shirts.  These guys also have the best dressed dealer in the state – Dennis – sporting a $100 bill bow tie.

Ron & Jeff run the floor with professionalism and smiles.  The dealers are rotated regularly, with breaks to recharge the batteries. The floor is quick to seat cash players, and help keep the tournament running smoothly. Any disputes are quickly and fairly resolved.

They also get extra points for the dedicated bartender – Ken – who keeps the poker players fed and the drinks flowing.

This is a professionally run room.  The dealers are fast and friendly, the floor quick to resolve issues.  The regular crowd is welcoming and friendly, with lots of cash and tournament action.  Great food, cold drinks, and great poker!

Overall: 23 of 25 Chips
