Room Review: Taylor Lanes June 25, 2010

Taylor Lanes Charity Poker Room 6/25/10

The Review

UMP came out to Taylor Lanes for the Friday Night 40/40 tournament.  The last Friday of every month Taylor Lanes hosts this special format deep stack.  $40 for 20,000 start chips with an optional add-on/rebuy of $40 for an additional 20,000 chips available through the first break.

There’s a whiteboard as you walk into the poker room with the cash game wait list, and the tournament information for the night.

The Taylor Lanes bowling alley building is set far back off Eureka Road.  If it’s your first time going there, keep an eye out – it’s easy to drive right past!

Games 5 of 5 Chips

Taylor Lanes offers Blackjack, several blinds & buy-in levels for Hold’em and Omaha hi/low or Round by Round upon request.  There is a lot of regular action at this location with two full tables running at 6:30pm on a Friday night, over an hour before the tournament start.  The cash tables briefly went down to one table at the start of the tournament.  Before the 2nd break, two lively cash tables were running with a wait-list for a third.

This poker room receives all 5 chips for the variety of available games and consistent cash game action.  Call ahead to get on the cash games list if you don’t want to wait for your seat!

Tournaments 5 of 5

The Friday Night 40/40 tournament drew 6 full tables of players.  First prize was $1500, seven places paid.  Tournament director software is displayed on one of the big screens in the poker room keeping everyone on the same level.  Once the prize pool is determined, all payouts are displayed too.

Taylor Lanes offers a variety of tournaments from $5 Turbo Rebuys to $40 deep stacks, and the monthly Last Friday $40/$40. Be sure to check the schedule on UMichiganPoker.com for charity and tournament information.

Atmosphere 4 of 5

The poker room is located at the back of the bowling alley, to the right as you come in the front door.  The evening’s event are listed on the white board as you walk in the poker room (cash game wait list and tournament information).  Charity volunteers are behind a banquet table selling chips and tournament buy-ins with a big basket of candy for players.

The lighting is bright, and big screen TV’s surround the poker tables. At the first break, Jeremy and Erin brought in free pizza – yumm!!

Equipment 4 of 5

Thirteen green-felted racetrack-style tables are available for play.  Cash tables have chip racks, tournament tables do not.  Cup holders are in all the rails.  Players have cushy buffet chairs, and snack scooters are available when players order food or snacks from the menu.

Both cash and tournament chips are custom.  This is a comfortable, well-equipped room.

Staff 5 of 5 Chips

The dealers here are great (except for one mean one … more on that later!).  They’re fast, accurate, professional, and don’t chime in with extra comments about hands. They keep the game moving along, and keep player speculation off the table.

The room managers, Jeremy and Erin, along with Roger, the floor manager, make sure any differences of opinion are quickly settled.  The waitstaff keep the drinks flowing, and the charity keeps the rebuys going!

Caution - the Meanest dealer in the World deals here.  I was moved to his table, played three hands.  He dealt trips against me **three** times killing my final table hopes!

The Meanest Dealer in the World

Overall: 23 of 25 Chips

This is a fun and professionally run poker room.  The regulars are friendly, and come out to play.  Lots of cash and tournament action to be found here!
