UMP visited the Big Beaver Tavern on a Saturday evening for the $60 Deep Stack Freeze-out Tournament. The poker room at the Big Beaver is down the stairs, immediately to your left after you walk in the front door. Registration was at the podium with the charity volunteers taking tournament buy-ins behind the bar. The Big Beaver Poker Room was playign for Diabetes Care Educational Association the night I visited. One full cash table was playing when I arrived at 7pm. and 42 players were signed up and seating for the tournament, offering a $932 first prize, paying five places. Be sure to arrive and register for the tournament early - bonus chips are awarded!!!

Big Beaver hosts charity poker Thursday through Sunday from 5pm - 2am.

Games: 4 of 5 chips

$1/$2 and $2/$5 Hold'em, Blackjack, Omaha and Round by Round are available. You'll always find a $1/$2 table open and playing. Be sure to call ahead if you are looking for higher limits or a round by round game!

Tournaments: 5 of 5 Chips

The Big Beaver Poker Room uses Tournament Manager software displayed on a big screen TV to run all aspects of their tournaments. Seating is done by the software, blind levels and lengths, payouts, etc. Everything is on the big screen - if there are any questions or confusion, it's quickly and easily cleared up!

Small buy-in with rebuys, $20 tournaments with add-ons at the break, and deep stack tournaments are all on the schedule. The levels are 15 or 20 minutes long, and the blinds raise at reasonable intervals (ie - not doubling every time!) These are fun tournaments - a lot of entertainment for the money! Payouts are 80% of the buy-ins and 50% of the add-ons/rebuys.

Atmosphere: 5 of 5 Chips

This is a non-smoking room, with smoking available upstairs at the bar as well as outdoors. A full menu is available for table-side delivery, drinks are delivered fast and cold. The poker room is brightly lit and welcoming. Four big-screen TV's in the room broadcasting all the games keep you updated on all the scores.

Green speed-cloth is on all the tables, custom tournament chips, custom next-gen chips for the cash tables, plus lots of other perks. There are no cup-holders in the tables to trip up your cards, and lots of side tables to hold your drinks & snacks. Very nice black-jack table with higher bar-stools to play 21. Down one chips due to the fold-up legs on the tables.

Staff: 5 of 5 Chips

George and his dealers are fast, friendly and very welcoming. Dealers are accurate, knowledgeable and fast! All dealers are in black pants, tux shirts and bow-ties. The dealers rotate frequently keeping the dealers fresh. Any questions or disagreements are quickly and consistantly addressed.
