UMP went out to play in the Vision Lanes Team Tournament on Saturday, June 5th. The UMichiganPoker team was recruited on Facebook, with Michele I., Brian D. and Ed P. rounding out the team. The first time any of us met in real life was on Saturday for the tourney!
I arrived at 2:30 to get our entry paid and make sure our spot was saved. As I pulled into the parking lot, there was Brian – waiting in his truck! The charity wasn’t on site, so I visited the Bigby’s down the road to get an amazing iced coffee. Al waited on me, and let me know that he wouldn’t be able to play the team tournament at Vision today (had to work!). Phew! Now Team UMP had a chance
Thanks for sitting this one out Al!
Got back to Vision to meet up with Ed & Brian, get suited up in fabulous UMP Logo shirts, and get seated. It was really cool – the Krazy Kopz guys seated each team member in the same seat number at three separate tables. You could glance around and check out the other team members and identify them by matching shirts *and* seats.

Ed’s summary – first UMP team player to fall
I should have been out earlier. I had ace king and hit and ace on the flop with a queen showing.. guy had pocket queens.. i somehow got away from it cheap. I also lost with pocket 10s, and pocket 9′s twice. Then, I finally hit big.. 9/10 for two pair with a 6 on the board – rainbow. Guy had the other two 9′s for trip 9′s. Grrr.. crazy luck for me today.
Michele – out 2nd on Team UMP – somewhere around half gone/half still in
Got short stacked when the lady to my left called my big raise (pocket jacks – raised to 1k with 200/400 blinds) with A-4 hearts. Called the next 2k bet too. She sucked out on the river to make her flush and hurt me pretty bad.
After the 2nd break, I got moved to another table, with just enough chips to be a PITA. 1st hand 9-9 utg. All in, fold around. Fold a bunch of the next hands. Go all-in with big slick – fold around and stole the blinds again. Couple more times around the table, peeked at 8-8 and went all-in. Got a caller with 9-10 who hit his 9 on the turn. That was it for me.
Brian’s Story
Went out in 29. Trip 4 take me out. The poker Gods were not kind to me. I saw three pocket pairs in 2 1/2 hrs. Kings which nobody cared to see my raise. 3′s and 2′s which I folded with 2 raises in front of me. I saw AK once and nobody followed. Must have aw Q6 and J5 close to 20 time combined. 72 I saw twice. overall played a patient game but card rush never came.

Brian - our last man standing
This was a very well run tournament – and a lot of fun! Dealers were great, levels were announced just before & just after they changed. Started on time, friendly players and staff. One table had a player buy a round of Superman ice cream for the table!
